1.) Berries – Yes, yummy blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, blackberries and raspberries can provide the body with some excellent anti-aging benefits. They are rich in antioxidants, such as flavonols and anthocyanins which promote cell health by helping to rid the body of free radicals that can be damaging to our cells and cause premature aging. Berries are also a great source of vitamin C which is good for your skin, helps to make collagen and has been linked to skin cancer prevention. [source: University of Maryland Medical Center].

2.) Dark Chocolate – Who would have thought eating chocolate could actually make us look younger? Dark Chocolate is also rich in flavonoids that help to retain moisture in your skin and protect your skin from UV damage. It is also good at reducing high blood pressure and bad cholesterol. So go ahead and indulge yourself in a little chocolate. Remember moderation is the key and the higher the cocoa percentage the better it is for your body.

3.) Fish – Fish is important anti-aging food that helps our bodies stay looking young because of their essential Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 can improve your immune system, sharpen your mind, lower risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol and help your body and mind feel and stay young. One study of middle-aged American men found that those who ate fish two to three times per week had a 40 percent lower mortality rate than those who did not. So grab some salmon, herring, tuna or sardines (highest in Omega 3) and eat to living longer, sharper memory and youthful appearance.

4.) Protein – Protein is an important anti-aging food. Protein helps your body to build new cells, maintain tissues and preform basic bodily functions. Protein can be found in meat, milk, yogurt, nuts and beans. Protein is very important but also something that is most likely over consumed in our diet. According to webMD it is encouraged to get 10 – 35% of your days calories from protein. That’s about 46 grams for women and 56 grams for men.

  • A small 3-ounce piece of meat has about 21 grams of protein. A typical 8-ounce piece of meat could have over 50 grams of protein.
  • One 8-ounce container of yogurt has about 11 grams of protein.
  • One cup of milk has 8 grams of protein.
  • One cup of dry beans has about 16 grams of protein.

5.) Green Leafy Veggies – Green leafy vegetables provide a great source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that will help to keep you looking young and healthy. Vitamin C will help your body produce more collagen which is essential to keeping our skin from sagging. Lutin and Zeaxanthin will help protect the body from free radicals and sun exposure. Leafy Greens that contain beta carotene, such as Spinach, collard greens and Swiss chard, contribute to the growth and repair of the body’s tissues. So, go grab some green leafy vegetables a key ingredient in staying healthy and looking younger.

6.) Water – If you are not drinking enough water expect shriveled and dry skin that lacks elasticity and doesn’t “bounce back” when pinched into a fold and sunken eyes. Harsh but true! 2/3rds of our body is made up of water. It is imperative that we replace the amount that evaporates or is expelled from our bodies or our skin will suffer.

Anti Aging Skin Care | Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is a powerful anti aging ingredient in skin care. It is naturally occurring in the skin making it a great natural, non-toxic ingredient for anti aging skin care. It is a brilliant hydrating ingredient because of its ability to attract and retain moisture. When we are young our skin is packed with Sodium Hyaluronate causing us to look young and youthful. As we get older, levels of Sodium Hyaluronate decrease causing our skin to age and sag. Sodium Hyaluronate is the naturally derived salt of Hyaluronic Acid with a smaller weight that allows it to penetrate the skin easily. Being a powerful humectant, it provides superb hydration by its ability to absorb water up to 1000 times its weight. Aging skin is plumped and the appearance of wrinkles is greatly diminished while stimulating collagen production. This is the main ingredient in Restylane, an injectable filler for lips and wrinkles. But for those of us not comfortable with needles on our face, luckily there are great skincare alternatives.

Two Can’t Miss Skin Care Tips

If you’re like most of the women in the Western hemisphere, you’re a major multi-tasker and proud of it! There’s only one drawback; well… actually more than one, but the one we’re most concerned with is you looking old beyond your years. Stress can do that, but so can poor skin care habits.

If you’re not following a daily face care procedure, there’s only so much anti-aging creams and serums can do. Our advice is to follow these tried and true tactics:

Tip #1. Apply sunscreen liberally every day. According to the National Institutes of Health, you need at least a half of a teaspoon to properly protect your face. Beauty blogger, Janna Mandell, states that the SPF found in your daily moisturizer may not be enough to protect your face. She recommends using a half-teaspoon of a separate sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 for your face every day.

Tip #2. Always apply your skin care product from thinnest to thickest. If you think about it, this makes sense. How would a thin serum penetrate the heavy barrier of a thick skin cream, for example? There are some caveats, e.g. some sunscreens need to be applied last, but we want to keep this really basic, so that you’ll actually follow our tips.

We recommend that cell renewal serum be applied first, followed with its Ageless Beauty companion face cream.

Often, it may be difficult to determine which products to buy when there are so many anti-aging skin care solutions on the market. But, there’s a rhyme and a reason for why our skin care experts developed the anti-aging products they did. It’s important to know that applying skin care products in the correct sequence will give you the best results.

What are some of your “must-do” skin care tips?

Secrets from the Sea | Skin Benefits from Algae “Seaweed”

Secrets of the Sea | Algae Skin Care Benefits

Algae, commonly referred to as “seaweed,” conditions, hydrates, softens and detoxifies the skin, all while replenishing essential vitamins and minerals. Rich in antioxidants, algae also helps to protect skin against free radical damage and prevents the formation of an enzyme that causes the deprivation of collagen.

Recent studies show that algae extract is rich in a compound called Alguronic Acid, shown to increase cell regeneration and the synthesis of elastin. Elastin is a protein in the skin’s underlying layers that give it firmness and elasticity. As we age, skin begins to lose its elastin fibers. The thinning and deterioration of elastin over time causes wrinkles, ‘laugh’ lines, expression marks, sagging and rippled skin. The resulting decrease in elastin physically changes the skin’s structure, leaving it weaker and more susceptible to tears. Aging skin loses Elastin at the rate of about one percent each year– even faster if exposed to constant sunlight. The loss of elastin combined with gravity and the natural slackening of facial muscles, all contribute to sagging, droopy, wrinkled skin.

Some algae even contain Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), a bacterial microphyte that stimulates skin cell movement and production and is proven to be more abundant in proteins and minerals than a mother’s milk. Algae is also full of enzymes, chlorophyll, amino acids, nucleic acids, fatty acids, and DHA. Amino acids in algae firm and renew tissue while the fatty acids fight against inflammation, leaving the skin even, soft and supple.  Due to the algae’s nutritious, soft cell wall, all of these nutrients are easily transferable to the skin through our top-of-the-line skin care products such as the ViOX Eye Cream Gel; proven to hydrate the delicate skin around the eyes as well as provide an immediate smoothing and tightening effect, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Face Serum | What is it?

ViOX Facial Serum

What is a face serum?  A face serum is a clear, liquid beauty product often formulated to target a specific problem such as wrinkles, firming, age spots and discolorations. Serums can address needs that aren’t covered by a moisturizer.

The structure of the molecules in a face serum is generally smaller than that of a moisturizer, which allows the serum to penetrate deeper than a regular moisturizer. Face serums are generally lighter in texture than moisturizer and can have higher levels of active ingredients.  Using a serum has some advantages such as the quick absorption into the skin and  they are often non-conflicting with other bases since serums can be oil free and not flake like gels.

Serums should be used along with a good moisturizer, as most serums do not have moisturizing ingredients. Moisturizers give the additional emollients that extra dry skin may need.

As mentioned before Serums contain concentrated active ingredients. As such, you may notice they often come with a heftier price tag than the average moisturizer. These active ingredients while it may make the Serum more expensive, you only need to use a small amount on your face.  This being the case, it will last longer.

Serum should always be applied to a freshly cleansed skin, this allows the serum to soak into your skin well before you apply your moisturizer.

After cleansing your face, pat your skin with a towel, gently apply a smaIl amount (a few drops is sufficient) of the serum. Serums often come in a gel or oil format, and while you may find they provide some moisturization, often you’ll still need to use your cream or lotion on top of the serum. Be sure to apply the serum directly onto your skin rather than mixing a few drops into your moisturizer. It’s the direct application of the concentrated serum that will garner you the best results.
